How to Build a Company – Branding 101 (Introduction)

At HostMyBytes, we see a lot of startups order hosting, and six months later (sometimes sooner) we find out that they’ve failed. Sometimes they run out of money, or they don’t get enough customers, or they’ve lost interest. The commonality that we’ve found among all these failed ventures is failed branding.

What does it mean to build a brand?

Let’s look at it in terms of a recent example. Most people won’t pay $15,000 for a no-name watch. On the other hand, a Rolex watch could easily fetch $15,000. Even an Apple branded watch has a hard time fetching $15,000. Why? It’s all about the branding. Rolex is an established luxury brand, and Apple is a technology lifestyle brand.

Building a brand means creating something that others want to associate with. iPhones have a distinct hipness toward them that other phones merely don’t have.

As a new business owner, you can begin the first steps of building a band and start on the journey to cashing in.  It takes years to create a brand, and it is not a task that should be taken lightly. Public image is important.

Building a brand means building a product that casts a memorable image. When you think of American fast food, what’s the first thing you think of? Probably McDonald’s. Their brand casts a memorable image. Now is the time to harness the power of a brand to help your company.

How did brands use social media to become successful?

Let’s look at a major brand and see what they did to become successful.

Old Spice is a reputable brand, and it has been around longer than many men have been using its products. In 2010, it ran a series of semi-viral videos, where “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” replied directly to tweets via YouTube videos. In The Thank You Economy, Gary Vaynerchuk describes how, “Old Spice Played Ping-Pong, Then Dropped the Ball”. Old Spice succeeded in building its brand through this campaign, but they stopped too soon; they had no way of continuing the conversation with their viewers.

Old Spice already had a following, and they mobilized it through good, quality content to turn their video viral. What they failed to do was to keep people engaged over the long term.

Next week, we’ll deconstruct the steps taken by Old Spice for their viral campaign, and we’ll create an action plan to building your brand in 30 days. Subscribe to our blog so you won’t miss out.

ActiveBytes Security & Management

HostMyBytes managed services include ActiveBytes security and management, our custom-developed solution to common security problems. After years of noticing the same issues, we realized that we can prevent issues before they happen. ActiveBytes security and management is our solution, and it saves users from headaches, potential downtime, and money.

Security – DDoS Protection, Hardening, & Datacenters

DDoS Protection DDoS attacks are a common attempt to bring websites offline. Many hosts are unprotected against these types of attacks, commonly leaving customers with a large bandwidth bill and nowhere to host their website. HostMyBytes understands this phenomenon, so all services are fully protected.

Pre-Hardened Servers – Servers are most vulnerable the second that they come online. Oftentimes, they are loaded with out-of-date software, and they’re missing a firewall and malware detection software. For security purposes, HostMyBytes hardens all servers using a pre-hardened template, with over 150 points of failure pre-checked.

Secure Datacenters – Your server is only as secure as its physical location. For this reason, HostMyBytes has servers in the world’s most secure datacenters, backed with 24/7 armed security and off-duty police officers. Customer data is treated with top priority, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Management – 24/7 Support, Administration & Monitoring

24/7 Support and Administrator Availability – We’re available 24/7 to help, with trained administrators always at the ready. Meet our admins

24/7 Monitoring – Imagine waking up only to find out that your server has been down for the past six hours. Nothing is worse, since you can’t make up that lost time. HostMyBytes has devised a solution, with 24/7 monitoring. If a fault is detected within the server, a high-priority support ticket is automatically submitted and investigated, with no intervention required by the customer. This is just one way that we live up to our uptime guarantee, month in and month out.

3 Reasons Your Server Location Matters

When choosing a web host, many people overlook certain aspects. Today we’re going to delve into one of those commonly forgotten aspects — server location. Customers are eager to sign up with the cheapest web host, but they forget the importance of choosing a web host with a server location near their target audience.

  1. Boost in local SEO rankings
  2. Lower ping (particularly important for game servers)
  3. Faster site loading times

Server location is particularly important if there are certain markets that you’re looking to target.

HostMyBytes has locations across the globe to help bring lightning fast speeds to your target audience:

  • Los Angeles (great uplink to Asia & North America)
  • United Kingdom (great for UK & eastern Europe)
  • Germany (great for western Europe)
